Liquid magnesium chloride and calcium chloride deicers used on Bangerter Highway and I-215 penetrate unsealed asphalt more aggressively than standard road salt. The 4,200-to-5,200-foot elevation puts pavement under stronger UV oxidation than most comparable markets. Getting the maintenance interval right for this climate is what keeps asphalt in service rather than in early replacement.
